Proven Leadership for a Safer Will County

Platform
Commitment to Transparency
-
Take the decision out of attorney's hands by implementing a policy requiring the public release of all Body Worn Camera (BWC) videos of Officer Involved Shooting (OIS) incidents involving Will County deputies within seven business days of the incident.
Prioritizing Mental Health for Law Enforcement Officers
-
Only recently has the topic of mental health within the law enforcement community become a topic of discussion. The things that we see and do on a daily basis will add up over time and can become over burdensome. All you have to do is look at statistics regarding police suicides, divorce rate among law enforcement, and substance abuse in law enforcement and you will see that a deputy’s mental health can decline if not addressed. I want to ensure that our law enforcement professionals have the proper tools to help deal with these stressors. I plan on approaching this issue with a customer service type approach. Ensuring that our deputies are healthy both mentally and physically will help to ensure better police service for the public. In order to accomplish this, I want to set up a peer support system and a health and welfare committee within the Sheriff’s Office to help ensure that our deputies are at their top physical and mental condition to provide police service.
Leveraging Technology to Solve More Crimes
-
For the past eight years, I have been the Deputy Chief of Investigations at the Will County Sheriff’s Office. Almost twenty of my over twenty-six years of being a police officer has been in investigations. Over the years, I have seen firsthand how advancements in technology have changed how we solve crimes within the County. In the past, the homicide solvability rate for detectives in the Will County Sheriff’s Office was anywhere between 50-60 %. With advancements in technology such as License Plate Readers (LPR), DNA advancements, and other emerging technologies, the solvability rate is now north of 80% mainly due to advancement in technology. I want to continue to invest in new and innovative technologies that will help solve crimes.
Maximizing Grant Funding to Reduce Taxpayer Burden
-
During my tenure as Deputy Chief, I have helped to obtain and write numerous grants. These state, federal, and private grants were used to help supplement funds for programs, services, and equipment. These funds were used to lessen the burden of taxpayer dollars, and I will continue to utilize funds like this for future programs, services, and equipment.
Strengthening Partnerships with State and Federal Agencies
-
I also would like to reignite old partnerships with other state and federal agencies by placing personnel into task force positions that will help to ensure the safety and security of the public in Will County.
Exploring Cost-Saving Solutions for Inmate Medical Care
-
I would also like to explore the possibility of utilizing an in-house nursing staff of Will County employees at the Will County Adult Detention Facility (WCADF). The current provider was the only provider that submitted a bid for the job. This is mainly due to the fact that the Will County Sheriff’s Office is too big for the smaller agencies and too small for the bigger agencies to provide medical care for inmates at the WCADF. By possibly providing our own service, we have the potential to cut down on wasted expenses.
